Up and coming events

This term we are very busy preparing for the Prize giving, merit assembly, the class Christmas party and many other events happening this term. Room 23 are known as the busiest class in the school so it's no wonder that we are in a hurry to get ready for the Christmas party. We must also compete in the Super kid challenges where you must work hard at home and school to finish your Christmas cards, cakes and hats. We are also having a secret Santa which will heaps of fun. Are class party starts on Tuesday 7 December. I can't wait.

Term 4 and 2010 is coming to an end. There is tremendous work going into the year 8 leaving ball the prize giving and the room 23 Christmas party. 2010 has been an amazing year for some students of room 23 there has been seminars, speeches, science fair, aims,and mix and mash. Students are looking forward to the new year but also are celebrating there achievements in athletics, speeches, the TV NZ 6 net guide multimedia challenge which Myself and two others placed third in with are rugby world cup website. Seminars

Term four holds a little challenge for the students at Pukekohe Intermediate school have been assigned the task of completing a seminar either based on a career or something that we know a lot about. I completed my seminar today and I felt it went very well my favorite part was the group challenge where they had to make a new slogan for the business they were assigned. Group 6 won that challenge with there wacky skit and slogan that was original and smart. I also completed a website for my seminar which the URL is www.wix.com/moepap/Taupo-Toursim.

Athletics

Tuesday the 16th of November stomachs where turning as we approached the steelers home stadium where they were soon to approach a mamoth day of running, jumping, swinging and a number of other skills. Many records where broken by: Havannah Pearson, Kaitlin Petherick and countless other students in year seven and eight. The teachers really got into it (Mr Walley was also challenged to a 400m race by a year eight student and placed second. Over all it was a great day where some stand out sports people where able to show of there amazing talent and the houses where able to collect some browny points at the social athletics held back at Pukekohe Intermediate. The Mulimedia challenge

Early In this year we spent 4 weeks designing a website I worked with two other girls from my class to design my website is called are you suspecting a scam and it's about how you can save money at the rugby world cup. We researched all the prices and worked really hard to make it as original as possible. We recently found out that we made it into finals in the running to win some major prizes. We are up against two other teams who have worked just as hard as us. We will attend a prize giving to find out are placing in the competition we are all hanging on hooks waiting for Friday the 12Th of November when we will attend are prize giving with a guest appearance Anne Tolly, The minster of education.

This Term we have to complete a seminar on our own choice. I have chosen to do mine on Terrific

Taupo Tourism a take on a video that I made in year 3 when I used to live in Taupo. I will interview Taupo bungy, the prawn farm and Huka jet. We need to present it in a creative way and make it original. I feel very confident that mine will come out well.

Welcome to term four

Are notebooks are packed to the rafters with tryouts testing and new teach classes. We will be PAT testing in week three for reading comprehension. We will also be having are annual athletics day in term four You can either be in the competitive section or the non competitive section. We will also have are prize giving at the end of the year with heaps of awards to be won. We will also have to present seminars on a topic of your choice then you must research and present it in front of the class. So term four overall is a pretty busy term.

95 Students from Pukekohe Intermediate gathered at 6:00 in the morning to head off to Tauranga for the 2010 Aims Games. Netball, Hokey, swimming, running and even cheer leading they will be back at the end of the week and then we will find out what placings they got and what fun they had.

Touch Typing

Touch Typing

This is the score that I got in the touch typing test I scored 11 words per minute but yet made 77 mistakes we have been working on the touch typing since the start of the year My first score for touch typing in term 1 was 4 words per minute. I have improved by six since then. My goal for my next touch typing test is that I score over 11 words per minute but I know that I will have to work hard.For this typing test we use sense lang witch you can play typing games and tests, we also use dance mat typing witch you have 6 levels with 3 stages in each level. These are both very good websites witch have really improved my touch typing score per minute.

Maths week

This week is maths week we have had a number of competitions like splat addition and mathex challenges we have also had a poster competition an lots of code cracker competitions witch we won today and we have also and school competitions decimal and money of the world maths week only goes for a week and we have used a maths week website that we use to earn points and then auction of things and buy movies, books and lots of other things.

Financial Literacy

This term we are learning about Financial Literacy witch is learning how to budget goal set and save money for important things in life like lollies or clothes. In class we have a currency and money witch we voted on we each have career mine is the supreme court judge who gets payed $6000 a week we are going to lease out things buy things auction on things and lots of other things that there are in modern society we will be doing this study for the rest of the term.

VSA braclets

From the 9Th of August to the 15Th , people across New Zealand will be buying $3 colourful, hand-woven friendship bracelets and wearing them to support the work of VSA volunteers in poor and uneducated countries.At Pukekohe intermediate all we had a mufti day and the gold coins went towards the VSA friendship bracelets. They come in all shapes, colours and sizes. I will differently buy some again next year.

The Library

In Class we have been working on descriptive writing this just one of the many story's that I have wrote it is about a book that is lonely and unwanted he then moves home and is noticed.

I peer around the blank room the fresh smell of the new and loved book lingers round .I see piles and piles of stacked books on tables and wonder wether were moving home. I have sat next to the new and loved books for years wondering wether someone will pick me up read me and love me but sadly my dreams have been smashed squashed and thumped. Some of my pages are torn and musty well other books still hold the fresh smell of ink. I’ve only been issued once but I was forgotten about and left with their water bottle. Today was my chance to get noticed today was my chance to stand out today was my chance t get issued wether they liked it or not.

Maori Language week

This is my Maori language week poster for the competition.

Tena Kotu Kato. Maori language week was full swing at Pukekohe Intermediate this week with a huge variety of activates, competitions and learning of the Maori language. This year Maori language week will focus on Te Mahi Kai the language of food the key message of this is to spread the word of Maori food and the language of food as it is very important in the Maori nation. Some of the great competitions that Pukekohe intermediate have to offer are design a poster witch Jade and Ana took out they both won a hells pizza. The fishing competition witch room 43 took out and the Tero Tuesday broadcast competition.

Maori language week focuses on teaching students, families and people of all nations the importance of the Maori cutler this celebration goes on from the 26^th of July- the 1^st of august. Many classes have got right into it around pukekohe intermediate some doing special performances others writing story’s about it Maori language week has got a great feel about it this year, not only does it bring community’s together but families classes and friends. I think everyone should have a little bit of Te Mahi Kai. Wether you make a traditional Maori dish or learn how to say a Maori greeting.

This is celebrating the new term and all the things that it will offer the website is Wordle.com it is a great website and it is really cool to use. You will notice that all the words are relevant to the topic the new term,some of the things are Maori language week everyone should use this website as you can have any words any colour and any deign give it a go.

PINTV logo

In ICT we ahve been making PINT TV logos this is mine it is two Maui's dolphins on the right side up and the other not I think that this represents the north island as the Maui's dolphins are
native myne was not chosen as the pint TV logo but I still think mine is ok.

Speech (Vitamin water)

Americans are constantly trying to come up with new and improved ways to put you at your peek best, companies are coming up with new ideas each day and vitamin water is one of them.

Vitamin water is a hot market drink but how much do you really know about vitamin water yes it may have the word vitamin and water but it may all be a marketing scam.

The ingredince include vitamin b, c and e all of witch are then mixed up with sugar water and soled to companies around the world.70% of vitamin water sales come from its healthy name and vibrant colures.

In 2009 1.5 million dollars worth of vitamin water was sold and no wonder the bottles are beautiful colourful and the text on them is snappy and clever they have empowering flavour names like endurance energy and focus there is no doubt that there is some great marketing at hand.

However let me point out that vitamin water has no juice none. And lets factor in that one bottle is 2.5 servings there for nurturance information should be adjusted accordingly, Unless your really only going to drink less than half a bottle at a time then that makes one bottle contain 125 calories and 33 grams of sugar that’s for than 12 ounce serving of coke.

Vitamin water is sold in many shops around the world and is very popular the only thing the customers don’t know is the vitamin water contains vitamins yes but it also contains a thing called crystalline fructuic witch is stuff that goes in shampoo.

Well your downing that bottle of shampoo your also using many different resources’ plastic paper and the list goes on talk about reduce reuse recycle.

Some people think that because they are on a diet that they should drink vitamin water the two reasons are one because it claims that it has no sugar and no fat talk about truthful and lets no forget two because it has the word water in the name.

Think about this when you go to reach for a bottle of sugar, water and shampoo. Why would you buy a bottle of artificial and fatty vitamin water when you could turn on your tap its just logic?

Mathletics

Mathletics is a maths website that you have to create and account for I have had a mathletics account for almost two terms now and I have achived alot I am sailing ahead In my maths and In maths grids that we have been doing lately I have score 93,98 and 100% I am really pleased with the website and think that it's a great way to learn your maths. I have 10 gold bars which are awards you get when you have completed an exercise to do with a maths area I recommend mathletics to anyone that is having trouble with learning basic facts or that wants to extend in there maths.It provides activities for maths levels and is for children aged 5 and upwards.

Shared lunch

In class we have been lucky enough to have a student teacher and she will be going back to university today some have planed a little surprise for here we have all contributed a little something and put together some money to buy her some flowers and a breast cancer pen.I will really miss her and her smile but she is of to pursue her dream.

House groups

At school next week are having a school sports day.We came up with a chant Chocolate Sunday banana split the other teams play like shift tothe left shift to the right come on Rutherford fight fight fight.Were defiantly going to win the trubo touch and netball goo Rutherford.

News paper

Recently in class we have been making are own news paper as you can see we have laminated and colour printed it I named myne the Rosevill times.We had to pretend we were news paper reporters and write and article on are science fair topic.myne was Global warming attacks!I had a movie review , Horoscopes and Auckland's ten worst roads I also added in my own advertising and barcode I was very pleased with my newspaper and hope to do another one soon.Next time I think I might trya nd work on more advertising at the bottom but over all I was very pleased with my work and I think I worked well.

Miss Morris-student teacher

Recently in class we have had a student teacher Miss Morris she is really cool.She has been traning at AUT auckland university to be a year 6-7 teacher she is on her last year and has been lucky enought to teach us in the digital class she dose a lot of science with us and we have made some videos and even a newspaper I really like a student teacher but wish she could saty longer.

P.I.N.T TV

At school we have a TV program PINT TV and just yesterday I had an audition and I had to read from a script we all got in but some of us may be let go.I hope I get in and I fell very confident that I will.We sit on a desk with are partner and tell the school the daily notices I cant wait.

School Social

On Wednesday we had a school social it was so cool.I did the chicken dance the makarana and bought heaps of glow sticks.It was s0 fun I can't wait intell the next school social.Miss Morris was on the DJ with the cool sounds and Miss Pearson was on chocolate and glow sticks it was so cool and Everyone went a little crazy it was so cool the best social that rymes.

Maggie

Technolgy Music

At School we have technology classes and I'm in Music it's great fun Mr Wallie takes are class we do listening activities were we make up stories to music.I have learnt how to play 6 instruments but i don't what there names are.

Apple computers

Being in a digital class is great we each have a computer and or a Buddie.I know heaps of stuff and have learned heaps. I can connect to the server save work up lode images create accounts and heaps of other stuff I'm really lucky to be in the digital class.Because a lot of people don't ever get to be in computer room and never get to learn those things that I'm lucky enough to learn.

Ballet

On Wednesday I have a ballet exam. There are 67 dances that I have to preform and I have done a lot of training over the past 4 months 9 hours each week of training.I'm nervous but excited as well.I can't wait in tell I get to go up to intermediate in 2 weeks

Basketball

Recently in class we have been doing inter class basketball.Over all we came second.We won 4 games drawed one and lost one ,I was secretly surprised that I was acttuly pretty good at intersepting and shotting goals I hope to try out for a school basketball team In the futer.

Science Project

Next term we have to complete a project to do with any topic I 'm going to be doing food wastage serving at my Mums shop to see how much you pay for a burger or pie or sub and how much you actually eat of this so called food.I am quite excited about the whole thing and I cant wait In tell we get started .And I'm confident about winning ...

Multiple Intelligences test

Recently in class we were taking Multiple intelligences test witch you can see the results off .Its all about logic thoughts and every day skills I scored top for logic ,Naturalistic, linguistic ,musical ,kinaesthetic and interpersonal witch most off these I have no idea of what they mean but off well you can check it out at Multiple Intelligences test .com.

Typing

cello

Cello is beautiful instrument ,you could even think of it as a huge violin it is lovely to play and it makes a beautiful sound even if you play a wrong note I have only been playing for a few weeks but as the only person in the school playing it I get a lot of one on one with the teacher she can play 20 different instruments even the electric guitar I could not imagine that you can have many different types of cellos meaning the colour of course you can have pink and blue yellow and Violet but there quite expensive types of cellos .

Swimming

My heart pounded as I toke the diving blocks my goggles fogged up and my togs tightened and my breathing grew harder I could see the end of the pool and I knew that I was going to be a long swim to make the finales I could see the people peering nosily at me from the side I blocked out the noise and the gun blew off I swam and swam in tell I reached the end I took a huge breath and knew that it was going to be hard in the finales .

Book Bags

In room 23 we had to make a bag not just any bag a book bag we had to choose a book witch we really enjoyed reading I choose Best Friends ,I choose this book because I could relate to the story I had to move away from my best friend but not as far as Alice moved away .On the book bag we had to include the title author why you choose the book your favourite / least favourite characters and the pot and don't forget 5 things inside representing the story and parts of it.

Mathletics

Over the past few weeks room 23 have been playing on Mathletics we have 10 minutes on live and the rest of the time we do number activities I have three bronze certificates and you need 5 to move up .I personally feel that i have made a huge improvement over the last week on my instant recall witch is one of my goals.Room 23 is the 30th best class in New Zealand .So far this week I have 612 points 1612 points to go.

learning to type

During period three and four on Thursday 4th ,in room 23 we all took a typing test on a website sense lang .I wasnt to pleased about my results I typed 17 words per minute and got six letters wrong.I hope to improve my percentage and words per minute .Our homework for week one was to bring a light fabric to cover our hands .My goals for 2010 typing is to improve my overall score for typing.
